Finding time to knit has been a bit harder lately, but I try to squeeze it in whenever I can. My latest project is this Shalom cardigan (free pattern!). I admit that I started this project halfheartedly and wasn’t sure I really liked the pattern. I scoured Ravelry for other knitter’s projects that I liked and applied their mods. I love how it turned out!

It took four months, but the Carrot Cardigan, is finally finished. Pardon the speck on my camera lens.
Down with Brown
This project took f-o-r-e-v-e-r. Not because it was difficult, but because of a recurring battle I was having with eczema on my hands. It made the skin on my hands crack and peel which was painful anytime I needed to use my hands – which was all the time. No hand modeling for moi.
For the knitters: Very easy (but also boring) pattern. The sleeves are still a tad too big in the armhole for me, but would have been even bigger had I not followed Sarie’s modifications. If you’re on Ravelry, check out her suggestions for the pattern. I used Knit Pick’s Stroll Sport yarn in Elk for this project. The yarn is super soft, but after just one washing it already has a fuzzy look too it.

Bummer dude. My 2.5 month journey to complete this vest ended up somewhere that was as uninspiring as Texarkana. Trust me; I spent a week there and never plan on returning.
The Rooibos pattern was exactly what I had been searching for in a vest pattern: casual (i.e., no lace or cables), falls just below the hip, and had an open front. I really wanted to love it when it was done, but I don’t.
Meh
The first Abalone cardi that I knit was a bit too snug for me so it ended up going to my sister who has a smaller frame. I really wanted one for myself so I tried it again using the exact same yarn. This time, I knit it wider (increased to 128 sts compared to 98 sts) to accommodate my husky self.

Following Directions
This Mr. Greenjeans cardi had been in my Ravelry queue for years so I finally decided to tackle it back in November. Between all the holiday-related distractions, deadlines, and a week in Duck, I just kept forgetting to post about it. BTW, the week in Duck was just what Santa ordered. We lucked out with the weather and only had one day of rain and another day when it was windy. The temps were in the 50s and low 60s for most of the week. It was almost 70 degrees on the 31st, so we spent the last day of 2011 reading on the beach.
Anyway, back to the cardi… I like the style of the cardi but decided I wanted a slightly longer length. I extended the torso section prior to the cables so that the button would fall closer to my waist rather than just under the bust. I took this picture before sewing on the button.
On Dress Form
Crochet? What’s that? It’s something I hardly ever do, that’s what it is. This Marguerite Beret was crocheted using Caron’s Simply Soft yarn which is 100% acrylic. The color name is Raspberry, and guess what. It looks like raspberry.
